I have started each of my annual reports with a ‘thank you’ to Links International for managing IMC’’s accounts so efficiently and for also being available at any time for advice and help.

That level of support continues but, sadly over the past few years, at an increased cost. Links have had to increase their charges to remain viable but this has had an impact on what we are able to transfer to Colombia each month.

The trustees has have tried to find other ways of managing the IMC finances at a lower cost but, so far, we have been unsuccessful. Links not only provides us with accountancy skills but with expertise in the legalities of running a charity which ensures transparency and accountabilility.

Looking back over the last few years, there has been a gradual reduction in IMC’s income. I wouldn’t pretend to a complete analysis but, I think, people have faced financial hardships over the past few years that have constrained them. Also, larger companies have definitely reduced the amount that they sponsor charities through matching employee contributions.

Expenditure, apart from financial management, remains minimal. Our running costs are more than covered by the fund-raising activities such as Fun Day and the summer concert. For those of you who organize and support these events, thank you very much.

Although our financial management is a significant expense, all charities have to be run efficiently. As a proportion of income, many charities spend much more than we do on administration.
